Spring 2018 Concert – “Let’s Dance” May 4

The Old Post Road Orchestra would like to announce its Spring Concert – “Let’s Dance”—to take place at Minnechaug Regional High School at 621 Main Street Wilbraham, MA on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 7:30pm.

 

Highlights of the program will include Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances,” Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance No.5,” Elgar’s “Sevillana,” Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz from Swan Lake,” and Grieg’s “Norwegian Dances.”

 

This concert will feature OPRO musicians: Amy Foerster, violin, and Jim Gustafson, viola, on the “Concertante” by Mozart.   Two student soloists will also be featured: Kayden Behan from the Springfield Community Music School playing a Vivaldi lute concerto, and Logan Mitchell from Minnechaug Regional High School performing Cécile Chaminade’s, “Concertino for flute.”

OPRO performance to feature “Musical Petting Zoo”

 

Wilbraham – The Old Post Road Orchestra (OPRO) has announced its annual Family Concert to take place Friday, March 2, 2018 at Minnechaug Regional High School located at 621 Main Street. Prior to the 7pm performance, the orchestra will offer a “Musical Petting Zoo” from 6-7pm giving children opportunity to touch, hold, and try various instruments that will be on display.

 

The program is entitled Heroes & Villains and will be conducted by Juli E. Sansoucy. It will include Tschaikowsky’s “March Slave” as well as “Highlights from Wicked”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”, and the theme from “Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves”. The Strings and Friends youth orchestra will perform “Trumpet Voluntary”, “Our Heroes” and “Pieces of Eight.

 

Strings and Friends is directed by Denise Gendron and was founded by Elaine Holdsworth, both members of OPRO. This concert is sponsored in part by a grant from the Wilbraham Cultural Council, a local agency, supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
